How to Marry and Keep a Supermodel: Lessons from a Mid-Wife Crisis

Book Review

At the start of the story, the reader immediately feels like a friend to the author. The style of Franck’s writing draws the reader in and makes them comfortable. It’s a good thing, too, since the rest of the story is a bumpy ride--wonderfully written and very dramatic. The conversation that develops between the author and the reader is thrilling and intense, but so natural. It’s truly as if two friends are catching up after a long hiatus.
The story itself is quite interesting: the courtship and catching of a supermodel and all the drama that came with it. Interspersed with the main story are little legal side matters that, on their own, could constitute another novel. Instead of taking away from the main storyline, though, these side stories act as a reprieve from the intensity of the Supermodel angle. The author discusses everything from prostitution to land grabbing in these side stories.
The main storyline, however, does not get pushed to the back burner for long. The author, throughout the breaks, brings the reader back to the excitement and intensity of Sassafras—the aforementioned Supermodel. Discovered in a train station and developed through years of back and forth drama, the love between the author and Sassafras is obvious, though completely dysfunctional.
A great read, How to Marry and Keep a Supermodel: Lessons from a Mid-Wife Crisis is enjoyable, dramatic and humorous. The lighthearted tone that the author uses to deliver such serious messages is what makes this book so hard to put down. It’s not as if the reader is simply reading another book, they are having a conversation with Herman Franck about his wild and spectacular wife!
